McMurtry Automotive are a British start up and were founded in 2016. The story goes that Sir David McMurtry, the billionaire co-founder of engineering and scientific technology firm Renishaw, asked a group of ex-F1 engineers to come up with a clean-sheet electric car with the "twin goals of driver engagement and vehicle performance." Headquartered in Gloucestershire, they started small with just a handful of employees. The brief for a powerful concept car was drawn up, with a consistent focus on small. and resultant prototype, known as the Spéirling Pure, was born.
In these foundational years the first McMurtry vehicle was designed and built. Throughout the many challenges encountered and overcome, the potential of the concept was evident. But it was in testing the car really shone; the thrill of driving this compact single-seater had to be experienced to be believed.
